In 2022, about 46% of all malaria cases in the South East Asia region (5.2 million total) were caused by P. vivax. India, a country with one of the highest burdens of vivax malaria (43% of total cases in 2022), accounted for 22% of the regions total malaria cases. Due to political and social instability, Myanmar saw an almost 650% increase in total malaria cases, with P. vivax accounting for about 22%.1
