The purpose of this paper is to describe certain clinical aspects of infection with the newly isolated Chesson strain of Plasmodium vivax. This strain of malaria probably originated in New Guinea in 1944. We have studied it under controlled conditions in 195 sporozoite-induced infections in healthy volunteers at the Illinois State Penitentiary at Joliet, III and in 125 trophozoite-induced infections in pyschotic patients at the Manteno State Hospital, Manteno, III.
