Implementation of Rapid Tests for Diagnosis of Glucose 6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency in Malaria Diagnosis Units of Two Municipalities in the Brazilian Amazon (SafePrim)

Aims and Objectives:

  1. Analyze the reliability of the application of qualitative and quantitative G6PD screening tests in the field by health professionals in the malaria notifying units in the municipalities of Rio Preto da Eva - AM and Mâncio Lima - AC;
  2. Analyze the quality control of the application in the malaria reporting units;
  3. Assess the acceptability of health professionals about the implementation;
  4. Assess health user satisfaction with the test at the malaria diagnostic units; 
  5. Estimate the incidence of hospitalizations and adverse effects associated to primaquine (signs of acute haemolytic anemia) in individuals with P. vivax malaria in the municipalities of Rio Preto da Eva - AM and Mâncio Lima - AC;
  6. Evaluate the efficiency, through the cost-effectiveness studies of the implantation of the tests in individuals with P. vivax malaria.
