P. vivax malaria in Africa

P. vivax malaria also occurs in Eastern and Southern Africa and makes up 11% of cases in high transmission countries and 2% in low transmission countries. Infections in travellers returning from Africa suggest that the disease exists at low endemicity throughout the continent.1

Multiplicity & molecular epidemiology of P. vivax & P. falciparum infections in East Africa

Traditional methods often underestimate the frequency and diversity of multiclonal infections due to technical sensitivity and specificity. Next-generation sequencing techniques provide a novel opportunity to study complexity of parasite populations and molecular epidemiology.
