The purpose of the presumptive treatment of P. vivax malaria given under the National Malaria Eradication Program (NMEP) to all fever cases in Uttar Pradesh Punjab Haryana Himachal Pradesh Jammu and Kashmir was to provide prompt relief of malarial fever and to achieve whenever possible clearance of parasites so that further transmission does not occur from the positive cases. Generally 2 primary health center areas of each district of each state were taken up for the study.
