Primaquine-tolerant vivax malaria in Thailand.

Plasmodium vivax infection can cause significant morbidity. In addition to the primary infection, dormant liver stages may re-emerge long after treatment to cause relapse. Primaquine, the only drug available for the radical cure (i.e. eradication of the hepatic hypnozoites to prevent relapse) of P. vivax (and P. ovale) infections has been used successfully for decades (Collins and Jeffrey, 1996).
