Pulmonary oedema in vivax malaria.

Plasmodium vivax malaria is widespread in Asia and South America. The infection causes a debilitating febrile illness, but vital organ dysfunction is very unusual. The occurrence of severe disease in vivax malaria has usually been attributed to either previous disability or coexisting disease, or a mixed malarial infection in which the presence of P. falciparum was not recognized.
