In Trinidad, Plasmodium vivax was last transmitted by indigenous Anopheles Aqualis Curry mosquitoes in 1961 (Malaria Division, 1961) before the successful malaria eradication programme in 1965. However after an absence of 25 years, P. vivax has returned in the town of Icacos situated on the south-western peninsula of Trinidad approximately 60km from the city of San Fernando.
