Submicroscopic double infection of Plasmodium falciparum in P. vivax malaria.

Laboratory diagnosis of malaria is made by microscopic examination of blood smears occasionally supplemented by serological tests. We had two patients diagnosed as having Plasmodium vivax malaria. To attempt in vitro culture of P. vivax, which has not yet been achieved, infected blood specimen taken from the patients were cultured according to the established method for P. falciparum (Traeger and Jensen, 1976).
