Treating Plasmodium vivax malaria in Colombia

06 Nov 2023

In Colombia, a pilot implementation of G6PD testing has started in four health facilities in Quibdó (Chocó). This initiative builds upon the positive outcomes of the Pilot Educational Program (PEP) on G6PD testing in the country. The pilot implementation applies the tested methodology and materials from the PEP in real-world settings, aiming to provide evidence to the Ministry of Health on its use in Plasmodium vivax case management.

Lina Zuluaga, the Coordinator from the University of Antioquia, explained the significance of the program and the pivotal role played by the pilot implementation in paving the way for the introduction of new malaria treatment schemes.
